60TPD Waste Tire Pyrolysis Plant in Indonesia

In May 2025, an Indonesian customer purchased four semi-continuous pyrolysis units.

Project Background

Indonesia faces the problem of end-of-life tire waste, particularly in industrialized regions like East Java. The Indonesian government issued Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025 in early 2025 to support “Waste-to-Energy” programs. As a result, the government provided a license that made it easier for businesses to engage in waste conversion to Renewable Fuel Oil.

The company is one of the most prominent players in the logistics and recycling industry in Indonesia. While it earns money through logistics, the company spends a significant amount of its budget on getting rid of old tires used on logistics vehicles. The company sought to take full advantage of the new law to minimize cost. The profit will come from producing Tires Pyrolysis Oil (TPO), which is highly demanded by the local cement industries and steel mills at much lower costs compared to conventional diesel used in industries.

They chose Semi-Continuous as the best solution to increase daily productivity while minimizing cooling and reloading efforts.

Configuring Solutions For Clients

The Problem: Upon the arrival of the engineers at Indonesia in May 2025, they encountered several issues. For one, the site was highly humid. Also, the plot of land that the client provided for the construction was not a perfectly square shape but rather a long and thin strip of land. Lastly, there were also new rules on emissions that must be complied with.

  • The Solution: Our team spent 21 days on-site delivering a customized solution:
  • Linear Layout Design: We re-engineered the standard “square” layout into a linear “train” configuration. The four reactors were aligned in a single row sharing a central overhead crane system for feeding, which optimized the narrow land usage.
  • Semi-Continuous Upgrade: Unlike batch plants that must cool down completely before unloading, we installed a hot-discharge auger system. This allows the customer to discharge carbon black while the reactor is still at ~200°C, reducing turnaround time from 8 hours to 2 hours.
  • Three-Stage Dust Removal: To meet local environmental compliance, we installed a specific desulfurization and dedusting tower. This system uses an alkaline water spray to neutralize sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the tire combustion, ensuring the exhaust is white steam rather than dark smoke.
  • Automatic Feeder System: We replaced manual feeding with a hydraulic auto-feeder. This allows the plant to feed whole tires (or large shreds) directly into the reactor under pressure, packing 15 tons into a reactor that would normally only fit 12 tons if manually loaded.

Our team also conducted a 5-day intensive training workshop for local operators, focusing heavily on safety protocols (pressure monitoring) and emergency response drills for oil leaks.

PyrolysisUnit Fast Delivery

Fast Delivery

We have sufficient stock of pyrolysis and distillation equipment to ensure efficient logistics and fast delivery.

After three months of operation (June–August 2025), the project data was audited to verify performance. The results exceeded initial expectations due to the high calorific value of the truck tires used as feedstock.

Performance Metrics

  • Total Processing Capacity: 60 Tons/Day (4 units × 15 tons).
  • Annual Capacity: ~19,800 Tons (based on 330 working days).
  • Average Oil Yield: 46% (Higher than the standard 40-42% due to high rubber content in truck tires).
  • Annual Fuel Production: ~9,108 Tons of Pyrolysis Oil.

By-products:

  • Carbon Black (30%): ~5,940 Tons/year (sold to local brick factories).
  • Steel Wire (15%): ~2,970 Tons/year (sold to scrap melters).

Economic Analysis (Annual Estimates)

  1. Revenue Streams:
  • Tire Oil Sales: 9,108 tons × $450/ton = $4,098,600 (Sold to local industrial burners/boilers)
  • Carbon Black Sales: 5,940 tons × $40/ton = $237,600 (Low-grade filler market)
  • Steel Wire Sales: 2,970 tons × $180/ton = $534,600

Total Annual Revenue: $4,870,800

  1. Operating Costs (OPEX):
  • Raw Material (Waste Tires): $50/ton × 19,800 tons = $990,000 (Cost includes transport; some tires were free, others purchased)
  • Labor, Electricity, Water & Maintenance: ~$400,000/year

Total Annual OPEX: $1,390,000

  1. Investment & ROI:
  • Total Initial Investment (CAPEX): $550,000 (Includes 4 semi-continuous units, shipping, installation, and civil works)
  • Net Profit (Pre-tax): $4,870,800 – $1,390,000 = $3,480,800
  • Return on Investment (ROI): The project achieved a break-even point in just under 3 months of full operation.

Conclusion

The example provided above clearly demonstrates how much potential there is in using the semi-continuous pyrolysis system for the Southeast Asian market specifically in relation to the country like Indonesia as early as 2025. Thanks to the innovative process mentioned above, it became possible not only to dispose of tires but even earn some extra money from their recycling.

The key point that allowed achieving success was the use of hot discharge which made it possible to operate continuously.
