Malaysia: Two Waste Tire Pyrolysis Plants
In October 2022, a Malaysian customer purchased two waste tire pyrolysis units.
Project Background
In late 2022, the Malaysian government intensified its push for “Circular Economy” initiatives under the Environmental Quality Act 1974. The customer, a regional logistics and recycling firm, faced two primary challenges:
Waste Accumulation: Accumulating over 20 tons of scrap tires daily from their own fleet and local workshops.
Rising Fuel Costs: Industrial heating oil prices in Malaysia were fluctuating significantly, impacting their secondary processing operations.
The goal was to establish a facility that could process 20 tons of waste tires per day (TPD) while adhering to the Department of Environment (DOE) standards for air emissions and waste residue.
Malaysia customer commissioned in October 2022. Amidst rising energy costs and a growing national tire waste problem, a local waste management firm sought an industrial-scale solution to convert rubber waste into high-value energy products.

Configuring Solutions For Clients
To ensure continuous operation and manageable maintenance, a dual-line solution was developed featuring two 10 TPD Batch Pyrolysis Units.
Technical Configuration
Reactor Design: Two horizontal rotary reactors constructed from Q345R boiler steel for high-temperature resistance and durability.
Condensation System: A three-stage vertical condenser system designed to maximize oil gas liquefaction.
Environmental Protection
Dedusting System: Includes water film scrubbers and activated carbon adsorption to ensure exhaust gases meet Malaysian Clean Air Regulations.
Syngas Recycling: Non-condensable gases are scrubbed and redirected to the furnace to fuel the heating process, reducing external energy consumption by 70%.

Average Pyrolysis Oil Yield: 45% (High-quality industrial fuel oil).
Annual Fuel Production: 2,700 tons.
By-products: 1,800 tons of Carbon Black (30% yield) and 600 tons of Steel Wire (10% yield).
Financial Analysis
| Category | Description | Amount (USD) |
| Initial Investment (CAPEX) | 2 Units + Installation + Land Prep + Permits | $220,000 |
| Annual Operating Cost (OPEX) | Labor, Electricity, Collection, Maintenance | $480,000 |
| Annual Revenue | Sales of Oil, Carbon Black, and Steel | $1,540,000 |
| Annual Net Profit | Revenue – OPEX | $1,060,000 |
ROI CalculationThe Return on Investment (ROI) is calculated using the formula:ROI = $1,060,000/$220,000 = 4.81
Payback Period: Under the market conditions of October 2022, the project reached its “break-even” point in approximately 3 to 4 months of full-load operation.
Waste Plastic-to-Fuel Refining Equipment Two Sets of Waste Plastic-to-Fuel Refining
Conclusion
The project demonstrates that waste tire pyrolysis is not only an environmentally sound solution for Malaysia’s scrap tire crisis but also an exceptionally lucrative business model. By converting a low-cost feedstock (scrap tires) into high-demand industrial fuel oil, the customer secured a sustainable energy source while achieving a rapid return on investment.
The dual-batch configuration provided the necessary redundancy to maintain a high uptime of 90%+, proving that modular, standardized pyrolysis solutions are highly effective for medium-scale waste management.
